The Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court has on Wednesday afternoon charged Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze Bakireke with incitement to of the public to commit an offence.

On Wednesday, the Mukono Municipality legislator was driven by an ambulance from the Police CID headquarters in Kibuli where she had been summoned to appear.

Riding in a wheel chair, Nambooze did not enter the dock but the charges of incitement to commit an offence contrary to section 21(i) of the Penal Code Act were read to her by grade one magistrate Noah Ssajjabi.

“On or about the 9th day of June 2018 by uttering and postings in the media, you incited the public to attack and murder public figures however well- guarded since the government could not secure them,”  Ssajjabi read the charges.

Nambooze however denied the charges before being released on a five million shillings non- cash bond.

The Mukono Municipality legislator was arrested following the murder of Abiriga in June but fell ill while in detention at Naggalama police station but was later transferred to Kiruddu government hospital.

Here, police refused to let her fly out of the country for   a number of days despite a letter from parliament indicating that he had to undergo treatment  for her back that was injured during the age limit fracas in parliament last year.
