VIDEO: Unknown people try to ‘steal’ ailing MP Zaake from hospital

The family of the Mityana Legislator Francis Zaake Butebi, who is hospitalised are in panic over a failed attempt to whisk away the legislator from his sick bed at Lubaga Hospital.

The family alleges a team of five men on Friday evening attempted to take the legislator from his hospital – efforts that were thwarted by hospital security.

According to the legislator’s brother, Dan Mugambwa, a group of men dressed casually accessed the patient’s room and started rolling him off the bed when he got in.

“They tried to force the patient off the bed and take off with him. It is at the time that I walked in, on seeing them I ran out and raised an alarm. They also ran off quickly,” Mugambwa said.

According to Bugiri Municipality Member of Parliament and lawyer , Asuman Basalirwa who visited Zaake yesterday, it is unclear who the men are or what their intentions were exactly.

“We are already aware Hon Zaake came here I unclear circumstances, we are not sure if they are trying to kidnap him again.”

Basalirwa condemned the act which he called cowardly and called for reinforcement at the hospital.

Meanwhile according to doctors’ accounts, Zaake’s condition could end into permanent disability. The youthful legislator complains of pains along his backbone and would need further examination.

“The earlier he is given permission, and his papers are worked on so that he gets medical treatment abroad, the better,” Basalirwa said.

Zaake was beaten following his arrest in Arua. He would later be dumped at Nsambya hospital in critical condition a few days later.

However, while responding to situations in Arua Municipality, President Museveni insisted that Zaake had escaped from Police custody and he would soon be arrested to answer.
