She-Cranes on course for 2019 World Cup

The netball she-cranes picked up their 3rd win following a 66-35 win over Botswana at the Africa Netball World Cup qualifiers.

Earlier in the day, the She-Cranes dismissed East African neighbours Kenya 61-42 in a hard fought victory. Team Captain Peace Proscovia says she is proud of the team’s resilience.

“We had to dig deep, a lot of the teams here are much improved, but I am proud of the girls for giving it their all.”

She however believes the goal to win the title has not changed.

“We came to defend the title, and by God’s grace, we will win it again."

Uganda started off with a win against Namibia and beat top seeded Malawi Queens who have already qualified for the Netball World Cup.

Uganda is the highest ranked side in the qualifying competition occupying 7th position on the INF World Rankings ladder.

The She Cranes finished 8th in the 2015 Netball World Cup, held in Sydney, in what was only their second ever appearance at the event. Action resumes on Friday with a tie against hosts Zambia lined up for Uganda at 3pm.

The top two placed teams will advance to next year’s World Cup in Liverpool,UK.
