Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has finally been produced before his family, a team of Human Rights Commission officials and two of his lawyers at Makindye Military barracks in Kampala.

Among family members allowed to meet the legislator included; his wife Barbara Itungo Kyagulanyi and his elder brother Eddie Yawe, while the Human Rights Commission was represented by their chairperson Med Kaggwa and Erias Lukwago acting as Bobi Wine's lawyer.

“He is in a very bad shape, the situation is dire and worrying. I managed to see him. They said they could only allow two lawyers and family members hence I was there with his wife Barbie and brother Eddie Yawe, so when we reached there, we saw how the situation looked like, it is terrible,” Lukwago lamented after the visit.

“We were taken to a particular room and he was carried in by soldiers. He was in tears, he could not talk or stand, his face was swollen and he tried to explain to us with a lot of difficulty,” Lukwago narrated.

According to those who accessed the singer, he mentioned to them that on the day of arrest, he was plucked from his hotel room ’literally unconscious’ after security personnel pummelled him with metal rods.

The singer said from the hotel room, he was thrown in a cold cell at the Arua airfield before being taken to Gulu.

“All he explains, that they have injected him with certain substances he can't tell, when we asked why he was injected without his consent, they presented a doctor at a rank of captain who said the injections were pain killers because he was in excruciating pain,” Lukwago said.

“He tried to hug his wife but could not, we could not even embrace him, he was feeling so much pain in the ribs and back. Unfortunately, even the doctor we came with was not allowed to examine him. They told us they will take him to Military hospital for medication,” Lukwago said.

The army spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire said that the army would take ‘good care’ of Bobi Wine no matter his condition now that he is in their custody.

“For whatever condition Hon Kyagulanyi may be in as a result of the whole ARUA fracas, UPDF will ensure he receives adequate attention and care now that he is under its safe custody. His family also will be able to visit him as per established procedure,” he said.

Kyagulanyi was arrested on Tuesday following a scuffle that saw Kassiano Wadri’s supporters allegedly stoned President Museveni’s convoy in Arua on Monday evening.

However, according to a statement by the army spokesperson, Brig.Richard Karemire, Kyagulanyi was on Thursday afternoon arraigned before the General Court Martial that sat in Gulu and slapped with a number of charges

“Consequently, Hon Kyagulanyi has today been arraigned before the General Court Martial in Gulu and charged under Section 119 (1) (h) of the UPDF Act, 2005 on accounts of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition,” Brig.Karemire said.

According to the government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo, Bobi Wine now shares cells with Boda Boda 2010 patron Abdallah Kitatta.
