We don’t know where Bobi Wine is, lawyers say after spending hours in Gulu

Detained singer Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine, can not be traced still according to lawyers who had gathered at Gulu Military barracks since morning.

According to the team led by Bugiri Municipality Member of Parliament and lawyer Asuman Basalirwa, security officers instead told them to return to Arua.

“They are non committal on whether he is here or not. What is clear is that we have been denied access to see or speak to him,” Basalirwa told journalists outside General Court Martial in Gulu, where Kyagulanyi is meant to appear.

“They said he was here for treatment then they took him back to Arua, then they also said Court Martial will be sitting here, so we are confused,” he added.

The lawyers, legislators together with Kyagulanyi’s wife Barbara itungo Kyagulanyi will address the media later in the day.

MPs; Kyagulanyi, Francis Zaake, Paul Mwiru,Gerald Karuhanga and candidate Kassiano Wadri were on Monday arrested by police following chaos in Arua town in which Wadri’s supporters allegedly hurled stones on President Museveni’s convoy shattering its hind screen.

On Wednesday, Members of Parliament tasked government to disclose the whereabouts of their fellow legislators.

Ayivu County MP Bernard Atiku asked that parliament be suspended until Thursday so as to establish the whereabouts of the arrested legislators because they could be in dire state.

However, in response, the second deputy Prime Minister Moses Ali told the August House that the legislators would soon be arraigned in court.

“Hon.Kyagulanyi has been flown to Gulu hospital but he is now okay,”Moses Ali told parliament.

“He was found with a gun and he will appear before the court martial in Gulu.”

He however revealed that the other legislators would appear before the chief magistrate’s court in Gulu.

The legislators demanded to know why their fellow MPs had been detained in a military barracks and not at police.

The MPs put Moses Ali on a hard task to explain why the arrested colleagues had been treated inhumanely while in detention.

“These issues shouldn’t be taken personal to the extent of torturing MPs almost to death,”said the Leader of Opposition Betty Aol Ochan said.

In response, the third deputy Prime Minister denied anyone being tortured after the arrest.

“There is no one of the arrested who was tortured. Be careful when doubting my statement because it is a minister’s statement,” Moses Ali said.

Earlier, photos showing Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake with wounds on his fingers and ears suspected to have been as a result of torture.

The speaker Rebecca Kadaga however suggested that some MPs should proceed to Gulu to confirm whether their colleagues are presented in court on Thursday in Gulu.

The Leader off Opposition later nominated Allan Ssewanyana(Makindye West) and Gilbert  Olanya(Kilak South County)  to represent the opposition  before asking the NRM side to choose representatives in Gulu.

Earlier, police had told journalists that Bobi Wine and Wadri had been slapped with charges related to treason and unlawful possession of firearms.
