National Union of Uganda Muslim scouts launches campaign to keep girls in school
The National Union of Uganda Muslim scouts in a move to empower girl child education today launched a campaign dubbed girls dignity project with major emphasis on menstrual hygiene management.
Recent reports show that 62 million girls around the world are not in school with millions more struggling to stay there some citing menstruation challenges.
Hundreds of school going children in Makindye division, education officers, head teachers, scouts and guides joined the National Union of Uganda Muslims scouts and faith in water in launching the girls dignity project.
The colorful event kicks a campaign against mobilizing support for the girl child challenges especially during the monthly menstrual period.
In Uganda 2/3 of the girls complete primary education, fewer secondary not withstanding the poor performance compared to boys.
Regardless of the fact that menstruation is a natural body function, it has remained a big challenge to the girl child education
The campaign intends to rely major emphasis on mobilizing support for girl child, create awareness among schools and parents on how to better manage girls during their menstrual periods so they can stay in school.
