This is a good tax -UCC justifies social media tax
In the wake of a new dawn of taxes on social media and mobile money, Uganda Communications Commission ( UCC ) has come out to justify the taxes.
In his address to the journalists and telecom representatives Monday, UCC Executive Director Godfrey Mutaabazi, said the tax on social media is a good one and already working in some countries.

" First of all, we believe that this is a good tax. Social media technologies have been investing all this time. These are American companies that make billions and there is no problem for us to benefit," the Executive director addressed journalists.
He added on that it is important to note that Uganda has accepted free investments and many have invested millions of dollars in our infrastructure.
"We have been complaining that we are loosing money. This decision by government is the right decision."
Mutaabazi however accepted that there are some challenges and they will meet after two weeks with the Minister of finance and telecom companies to discuss the way forward and how they can better the process of collecting these taxes.
