Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze has been given Police bond for the second time in one month.

Nambooze, currently bedridden at Kiruddu Hospital, will be obliged to report to the Commissioner Homicide Department at Kibuli on Sunday, July 29, 2018.

An additional charge has been brought against the ailing MP. Apart from being charged with offensive communication, Nambooze now also faces the charge of incitement to commit violence according to the Police bond document.

Nambooze was first arrested on June 13, 2018 for alleged offensive communication. Nambooze's arrest was ordered by the director of Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) Grace Akullo after comments she made on the assassination of former Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga on June 8, 2018.

Nambooze was rearrested on June 14, 2018 after President Yoweri Museveni's criticised Police for giving bond to people accused of serious crimes like murder. Nambooze stands accused of offensive communication because she claimed that while she was sorry for the Arua MP's shooting death, he was not an innocent victim as some eulogies tried to portray him.

At events to remember Abiriga and during his burial, President Museveni accused opponents of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) of killing NRM followers including the fallen MP.

Nambooze's lawyer and Kampala Mayor Erias Lukwago says the MP will be discharged from Kiruddu hospital and transferred to her private doctor with a practice in Bugolobi. After examination and approval, Nambooze will then be flown to India for further treatment for her chronic back medical condition.
