NRM to reshuffle parliamentary committee leaders who opposed age limit Bill

The National Resistance Movement leadership caucus in parliament has finalised plans to reshuffle all NRM committee chairpersons and the deputies who opposed the recently concluded article 102 9(b) of the presidential age limit.

On 20th December 2017 a total of 317 MPs   passed the age limit bill by amending article 102 (b) by lifting the age cap for the sitting president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni amidst resistance, scuffle and bloodshed from opposition who were brutalized allegedly by a section of SCF attached to president.

However, all is not well in parliament to the NRM caucus as the top leadership in led by Ruth Nankabirwa have finalised steps to whip all the NRM committee leadership who opposed the amendment of article 102 (b) and 8 members who include; Connie Galiwango chairperson committee of Education, Alex Ruhunda chairperson committee of trade, Lowila Oketayot chairperson agriculture and his vice chairperson Robert  Miggadde will be affected in the coming reshuffle.

Other NRM members to face the axe include; Susan Amero vice chairperson presidential affairs committee, and Roy Katali vice chairperson finance committee.

Some of the affected committee leadership we reached said they still stand by their position on opposing the lifting of the article because they were the views from their constituents.

However, government chief whip in parliament Ruth Nankabirwa and Solomon Selwany when reached for a comment could not deny the information and told our reporter those changes happen in parliament and some members will be affected in the coming reshuffle of parliamentary committee leadership.

Solomon Selwany vice chairperson Nrm caucus said “it’s true we are changing the leadership of committees and the NRM party  members who don’t play by party lines will dance to their tunes”.

The development comes at a time when court in Mbale is yet to rule on a petition filed by opposition and civil societies challenging the Igara west legislator Raphael Magyezi’ motion to lift the age cap for president Y.K.Museveni which will see him contest for the 2021 elections
