EC warns people not to disrupt LC 1 elections

Simon Byabakama, the chairperson of the Electoral Commission has warned people not to disorganise the forthcoming LC 1 elections.

The elections are scheduled for July 10.

Any disruption of the exercise will lead to automatic postponement of the election, he warned.

“If anyone disorganises or disrupts the LC1 elections, they’ll have to wait for the next election. They won’t have an LC1 until the next elections. That’s why I insist that the success of this election largely rests on the voters,” Byabakama said on NBS TV's Morning Breeze show.

He said that ever since the postponement of the local council elections last year, new villages have been created and as such voter registration in the newly created villages will take place.

He said that in these LC1 elections, every village is a constituency and a polling station.

He said voting will be by lining up not because of budget constraints but because the law stipulates so.
