Ugandan innovator wins Africa award, Shs 96 million
A team of Ugandan computer scientists and inventors spearheaded by Brian Gitta , who developed a device that can carryout malaria diagnosis without drawing blood, emerged winners of the 2018 prestigious Africa prize for Engineering innovation award.
At the ceremony which was held in Nairobi, Kenya , Gitta and his team where announced winners of the awards having created a low-cost reusable device that tests malaria called Matibabu which loosely means 'medical center ' in Swahili.
The device just clips on a patients finger needs no specialist expertise to operate and delivers results with in a minute on a mobile phone that is linked to the device.
Gitta became the first and youngest person in Uganda to scoop the award and earned him worth $25,000 as prize money
