After spending the whole day in police custody, Mukono Municipality’s Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze Bakireke has been released on bond.
Nambooze was dragged from her home at around 8:00am where she was taken to Jinja Police station before she was transferred to Nagalama police station over investigations relating to offensive communication, a breach of the Computer Misuse Act.
Her lawyers led by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago were however able to secure her bond later on grounds that she has a medical condition that requires her to be home.
One of her lawyers Samuel Muyizi informed us that she will be expected to report to Kibuli CIID head quarters on 19th June 2018.
Nambooze was this morning picked from her home in Mukono Central Division Mukono Municipality following investigations into posts she shared on social media that are alleged to have breached the computer misuse act.
In her posts, Nambooze confessed that while she was saddened by the assassination of Arua MP Hon Ibrahim Abiriga on June 8, 2018, she would not paint him as an innocent victim. Nambooze said that Abiriga had been instrumental in the passing of the constitutional amendment on presidential age limit and should not be remembered as a harmless, comic MP of the people.
