Abiriga killers are enemies of NRM- Museveni

President Museveni has said that the killers of Arua Municipality Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Abiriga wanted to get back at the party and the legislator for having diverging ideas.

President Museveni was Saturday morning visiting the home of the slain legislator where he made the statements. The visibly angry Museveni spoke strictly in Swahili.

“He has died because of NRM. He was a big follower of NRM. Investigations are on going but there's a high possibility that the enemies of NRM have killed him and this shows their stupidity for fighting against NRM,” Museveni said.

“We fight with ideas, you have your ideas and I have mine, it is ideas that fight why would you kill each other if you don’t have the same ideas?” Museveni wondered.

President Museveni also wondered why people would come after Abiriga who only expressed his views freely, he called upon the rest of the country to accommodate each other’s views instead of eliminating each other because of diasgreements.

“We (NRM) have power but have never killed any Ugandan because we respect people`s views. We will catch these killers,” he said.

Museveni related Abiriga’s death to the murders in Busia and Busoga over political differences, saying that the people have become intolerant to unlike views.

“These people killed LC’s in Busia, and about 40 people in Busoga. They don’t want other people to make their choice about the leaders they want. Now someone like Abiriga who was elected by people, they have killed him,” Museveni said.

Museveni also reiterated the need for CCTV cameras urging that it seems development can be halted to battle murderers.

“We will put cameras on the roads so that we see the murderers every time. They killed Abiriga on the road. So we will start with cameras and also increase funding on security. We must defeat these criminals. Pole sana (sorry for the loss),” Museveni said.

He also offered to take care of the family’s needs as well as school fees for the little ones.
