NRM Secretary General Lumumba Disagrees with Museveni on Corruption Unit

Featured

National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba has disagreed with party chairman and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni’s decision to name a new anti-corruption unit.

Addressing the press, Lumumba said that the Inspectorate of Government is a constitutionally created office tasked with fighting corruption. The NRM SG suggested that if President Museveni is dissatisfied with the IGG’s performance, a review can be conducted.

Lumumba said that, “Maybe the IGG has been failed by the law. It can be revised and repealed.”

The fire spitting Lumumba wondered how a unit can help to fight corruption yet an entire constitutionally mandated office has so far failed to bring in substantial prosecutions in the fight against corruption.

Lumumba said that the IGG’s office is doing some good work but is hampered by a number of challenges that the head of state can look into and solve.

Lumumba went on to inform the press that this line of disagreement is with the party chairman as a member of the National Resistance Movement and not head of the country.

The Inspector of Government head Justice Irene Mulyagonja defended her docket from President Museveni’s attacks in his 2018 State of the Nation speech.

Mulyagonja noted that the IGG is still underfunded which makes it impossible for the office to pursue more complex cases of corruption.
