NDA Promotes Whistle blowing in Fight Against Counterfeit Drugs

In a bid to boost vigilance and curb infiltration of fake or counterfeit drugs by unscrupulous people, the National Drug Authority (NDA) has finalized drafts for a whistle blower policy that will see all those that avail the authority information rewarded as well as protected.

Addressing the media at a weekly round table, the executive director NDA Donna Kusemerererwa revealed that this will go a long way, in wiping out people who sell and harbour those that sell counterfeits.

“The people who sell these drugs are in communities, while NDA cannot reach their in time to arrest them, we believe the society has information about their existence, they should come and tell us”

Head of Inspectorate services, Nahamya David revealed that they have already drafted the whistle blowers Policy and awaits discussion.

Nahamya says the public can now report illegal operators, hawkers, people who sell unauthorized herbal medicines, pharmacies and drug shops operating without licences

Nahamya says, “We are now working on modalities like how one can report to NDA, but in the meantime we shall be welcoming visits by people with information to the authority as well as using the authorities toll free lines.”

The whistle blowers will not only be rewarded but efforts are underway to avail them with money for information provided to the authority.
