Two Flying squad operatives kidnap man; demand shs2m from wife

Police in Kawempe has arrested two defunct flying squad unit operatives for kidnapping a man and demanding a two million shillings ransom from his wife.

The two suspects including John Kalume and Moses Mukiibi according to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire allegedly kidnapped one Michael Kisinga from Bwaise on Friday and started demanding for ransom from his wife who informed police and the hunt for the kidnapper began.

“The kidnappers were tracked before being arrested in Bwaise but on interrogation, Kisinga told officers that he had previously transacted a deal with his captors but it went bad,”Owoyesigyire said.

“This, he said forced the duo to kidnap him in anticipation of receiving their equal share.”

According to the police mouthpiece, Kisinga had been on the watch- list for crime intelligence officers in regards to previous crimes including aggravated robbery he is suspected to have participated in.

Since the kidnap and subsequent murder of Susan Magara in February as she left work, the number of kidnaps has increased in the country .

Over 50 people have been kidnapped in the past four months but investigations by security agencies have also found out that a number of the kidnaps are self -initiated by those involved to demand ransom from lovers and parents.

A number of these have on several occasions busted and arrested by security.
