Police in Kasangati has arrested three men for allegedly murdering a business woman and later raping her dead body in order to destroy evidence.

Elizabeth Nakato (32), a businesswoman along Luwum Street in Kampala was killed last month and her body dumped at Kakerenge, Kasangati in Wakiso district.

The three suspects in custody include Nakato’s brother Pius Mugambwa (26), Sunday Nsubuga (32) a cab driver and Kasim Mpalanyi (37).

According to police, the suspects on interrogation admitted to having killed the deceased.

It is said that Mugambwa got wind of plans by his sister to sell her three plots of land and pretended to look for buyers on her behalf.

It is alleged that on the fateful day, Mugambwa and his two accomplices picked Nakato from Namugongo to go meet the 'buyers' for her land.

"After driving for a while, the suspects pounced on her before hitting her with a hammer on the head killing her instantly," a police source said.

It is said that the three suspects would later rape the deceased's body in a bid to disguise the murder as part of the recent wave of women murders.

Led by the deceased's brother Mugambwa, the three suspects took turns in raping the dead body before dumping it in a nearby bush.

Arrest

The suspects attracted attention when they took the Toyota Premio they had been travelling in to a washing bay, and the washing bay workers confronted them over the blood soaked backseats.

They attempted to dispel suspicion by explaining that it was blood for a chicken slaughtered on the orders of a witchdoctor. Unconvinced, the washing bay employees alerted police.

Police arrested the three suspects and when the blood samples were taken to the government analytical laboratory in Wandegeya, tests confirmed it was human blood.

On searching one of the suspect's home, the deceased's phone was recovered.

The suspects are currently detained at Kasangati police station.
