Army court fails to deliver ruling on Kitatta's bail application

The General Court Martial in Makindye has today failed to deliver ruling on a bail application by Boda Boda 2010 patron Abudallah Kitatta.

Kitatta, who is charged together with 10 other Boda Boda 2010 members applied for bail saying he sickly and needs to get medication while at home.

On Monday, the army court was supposed to deliver its ruling on the bail but Kitatta was told the ruling is not yet ready.

"Court did not get time to deliberate on the ruling because of other matters,"said the judge advocate Col.Gideon Katinda.

The court chairman Lt.Gen.Andrew Guti adjourned the matter to May 21 when the ruling shall be delivered.

The group is accused of unlawful possession of 30 and 20 rounds of ammunition for SMG rifles and pistol respectively which are government stores contrary to section 161 of the UPDF Act.

The army also accuses the group of unlawful possession of military equipment including headgear and uniforms which are a monopoly of the defence forces.

The offences against the group are criminal in nature and attract maximum sentences of death and life imprisonment respectively according to the UPDF Act 2005.
