Township rolls over KCCA FC in Caf champions’ league to lead group
Uganda Premier League defending champions KCCA FC had a bad start to this year’s continental duty when they were beaten by Township Rollers in Botswana on Friday evening in the CAF champions’ league.
A 35th minute Lemponye Tshireletso goal was all the hosts needed to bag the maximum three points as Uganda’s representatives continued struggling on the continent in their group A opening game on Friday.
Efforts by Muhammad Shaban, Derrick Nsibambi and Julius Poloto’s efforts to save their team were not enough salvage even a point from Gaborone.
Meanwhile in Egypt, record eight time champions Al Ahly were held to a goalless draw by Tunisian giants Esperance in another group A encounter in the CAF champion’s league on Friday evening.
Minnows and surprise qualifiers Township Rollers are now top of the group on three points whereas Esperance and Al Ahly are second and third with a point each.
Uganda’s representatives KCCA FC are at the bottom of the group without a point after one game played so far.
KCCA FC will now host Al Ahly at Namboole on May 15 in their next group A game of the CAF champions league whereas Esperance will host Township Rollers.
