My account hacked, Ugandan followers being deleted- Besigye

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party strongman Dr Kizza Besigye has raised alarm over his twitter account which he contends has been hacked into by  ‘mafia’.

Besigye took to the same Twitter handle to lament that the hacker has started by deleting all his Ugandan followers.

“I have confirmed that a hacker is systematically deleting my Twitter followers, especially, the Uganda-based ones. I am consulting on how to fix it. We live in a Mafia land,” Besigye said.

Nile Post could not independently verify Besigye’s claims, however, digital specialist Joseph Owino hinted on the fact that Besigye’s followers could be voluntarily unfollowing him.

“Do you mean your account has been hijacked and handles you follow are being unfollowed? Because it’s far fetched for thousands of accounts to be hacked just to unfollow you. OR twitter has purged fake followers and you’ve been affected?”Owino posed.

Milton Allimadi a US based journalist confirmed that same has happened to him whenever he tweeted about activism but as soon as he posted a protest on his platforms, the followers would resurface.

"People thought I was kidding when I tweeted that same happened to me. Every time I accumulated 10 new followers it would decline by 10 before climbing again. Weeks ago my tweet about the Great 'Visionary' declined 3 times,” Allimadi said.

“I noticed every time I tweeted a protest the problem would stop for a week or two weeks,” he added.
