Startimes Delivers The Promise To Broadcast The 2018 FIFA World Cup

StarTimes Digital TV has today confirmed it will broadcast all the 64 FIFA World Cup matches live and in HD.

The Multinational Media company with strong presence in Africa last year acquired the 'Media Pay-TV broadcasting rights' for the Sub-Saharan Africa to broadcast the World Cup; “ALL 64 MATCHES LIVE IN HD”.

StarTimes was launched in 2010 and is now the leading digital TV operator in Uganda with an outstanding market share of over 70-percent and an average of 1.4 million subscribers.

Vice President, also Brand and Marketing Manager, Aldrine Nsubuga, revealed how this growth has significantly contributed to delivering their promise (Enjoy Digital Life) to Ugandans in a press conference at the StarTimes head offices.

“Our current market leadership with close to 1.4 million subscribers guarantees that the RUSSIA 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP will now be enjoyed by many more households than the previous ones. This is excellent news to millions of television owners in Uganda who couldn’t watch the World Cup due to the high cost of acquisition and subscription.” He said.

The Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup will be the 21st FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by 32-teams.

StarTimes has dedicated 4-Sports Channels to broadcast the tournament from June 14 to July 15, 2018 which are; World Football, Sports premium, Sports Life and Sports focus.

It is the first World Cup tournament for the broadcaster having made significant inroads towards securing major sports properties, where the company currently broadcasts The Bundesliga, Serie A as well as the Chinese Super league exclusively.

The World Cup is therefore a strong addition to the company’s offering as it seeks to stamp its authority in the broadcast of key sporting events after the;

  • FIFA U-20 World Cup 2017 (20th May 2017 – 11th June 2017)
  • FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 (17th June 2017 – 2nd July 2017)
  • FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 (6th October 2017 – 28th October 2017)
  • FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2017 (27th April 2017 – 7th May 2017)

They will be adding the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to the 2018 menu.

Interestingly, subscribers will be in a position to enjoy these prestigious tournaments from as little as Ugs. 10,000 per month for Nova bouquet and Basic, Classic or Unique bouquet that retail at Ugs. 18,000, 36,000 and 54,000 respectively.

The same will be available for as little as Ugs. 12000 for Nova, Ugs. 24,000 on Smart bouquet and Ugs. 54,000 for Super bouquet on the StarTimes satellite television platform.
