Frank Mwesigwa dropped as Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander

The Inspector General of Police in new changes has dropped Commissioner of Police Frank Mwesigwa as Kampala Metropolitan Area Police Commander, the Nile Post reports.

In message dated April 14, Mwesigwa has been sent to head Tourism police.

According to the new changes, Mwesigwa has been replaced by Commissioner of Police, Moses Kafeero, who has been the commandant of the Senior Staff College Bwebajja in Wakiso district.

Born in 1980 to Rtd Rev. Canon Patrick Bwerere in Kazo, he holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Makerere University and a Master’s degree in peace studies and conflict transformation from Rwanda.

Mwesigwa joined police in 2007 before being deployed in Counter Terrorism.

He was later appointed as the commandant in charge of Kabalye Police Training School in Masindi district until July 2016 when he was appointed Kampala Metropolitan Area Police commander.

Mwesigwa was in charge of police during the contentious age limit debate in which he thwarted opposition rallies in the city and its suburbs.

Recently, the Constitutional Court issued summons to Mwesigwa to appear before it for cross examination over his role during the climax of the debate.

In the new transfers, Senior Commissioner of Police, Wilson Omoding has been appointed as the deputy director Counter Terrorism police to replace Senior Commissioner of Police Geoffrey  Chombe who has been sent to head Crime Intelligence.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Lawrence Nuwabiine who once served as Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Commander has been appointed  to replace Kafeero as the commandant Senior Staff college in Bwebajja.

According to sources, the meeting that preceded the transfers was chaired by the Inspector General of Police ,Okoth Ochola, his Deputy, Brig.Muzeeyi Sabiiti and the Human Resource Director, AIGP Moses Balimwoyo among other selected officers at Naguru.

"We congratulate the appointees and wish them well in their new assignments,"said police spokesperson Emilian Kayima.
