Centenary Bank, too, investigates staff over Bagyenda's account details

Centenary Bank has in a statement issued today said that it is "disturbed" by the leaking of account details of Justine Bagyenda, the former executive director in Bank of Uganda in charge of supervision had has instituted investigations

"The bank immediately instituted investigations to ascertain the allegations related to the incident in coordination with all concerned parties, with a view of holding whoever is found culpable accountable," reads part of the statement.

The bank said it regrets the action and assures customers and the public that it remains "committed to the highest standards of client service and confidentiality."

Centenary Bank's statement

According to the leaked information, a whistleblower in February claimed that the former director had accumulated Shs 19 billion on various bank accounts at a rate which was not commensurate to her earning.

The whistleblower alleges that Bagyenda operates shillings and dollar accounts in Diamond Trust Bank, Centenary, Barclays  banks on which she has stashed away billions.

Centenary Bank is the third bank to investigate staff over the leaking of Bagyenda's bank account details.

Both Diamond Trust and Barclays Bank issued apologies to Bagyenda and sacked staff suspected to have been behind the leakage.
