Kirumira asks police court to acquit him over lack of evidence
Former Buyende District Police Commander ASP Muhammad Kirumira has asked Police Disciplinary Court to dismiss charges against him due to lack of evidence.
Kirumira is accused of Corruption, Unlawful excessive use of Authority, Neglect of duty and Scandalous manner, contrary to the Police Act.

Prosecution alleges that Kirumira committed the offences when he was in Charge of Old Kampala and Nansana Divisions in 2013 and 2014 respectively. The last charge resulted from his failure to salute officers when he appeared before the Police Disciplinary Committee a few weeks ago.
Kirumira today asked the court to dismiss the charges on grounds of insufficient evidence and lack of merit.
Police Prosecutor Catherine Kusemererwa initially told the court that over 30 witnesses were prepared to pin Kirumira in the seven charges which include extortion, corruption, torture, unlawful arrests, discreditable conduct, neglect of duty, scandalous conduct, and excessive use of authority.
However, some of these were withdrawn due to lack of evidence. Now Kirumira argues that all witnesses lined up against him never came to court to testify, implying that the cases were just trumped-up.
The Disciplinary Court Chairman Denis Odongpiny adjourned the matter to April 5, 2018, to allow his committee time to analyse the evidence they have and come up with a ruling.
