Police officer shoots two for interrupting fight with wife, then shoots wife and self

A police constable in Katakwi district has ended his own life after shooting dead three people, including his two colleagues and a woman believed to be his lover.

One civilian was also injured by what the police say was a stray bullet from Constable Alfred Omara Otto's killer weapon.

The incident happened on Tuesday evening at a police detach at Kapujan landing site in Kapujan sub county in Katakwi district.

The dead include Corporal Lillian Nandutu, Constable Julius Erimu and Ester Anyait, a civilian.

Preliminary findings based on witness statements indicate that Otto was fighting with his lover Anyait when his two police colleagues came to try and restrain him.

Constable Otto who was carrying an AK47 riffle immediately turned it and shot at the two officers and a stray bullet hit a civilian on the leg.

Otto then pointed the gun at Anyait and shot her dead before shooting himself.

According to the deputy police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, police has been able to recover all the dead bodies and the weapon that was used.

While the bodies of Erimu and Nandutu were found yesterday night, those of Anyait and Otto were only found this morning.

"We recovered the bodies of Anyait and the police constable who shot all these people, this morning in Bisina river, so in total we have four bodies," Onyango as quoted by Uganda Radio Network.
