Laboratory assistant nabbed for altering HIV test results

A laboratory assistant at Citizen Medical Centre in Kasokoso, Wakiso district, has been nabbed for allegedly altering HIV test results.

Moses Mande, the assistant, was nabbed by police after it was tipped off by an unnamed person. Police says Mande has been altering results for people in exchange for Shs 50,000. Police said this breaches the medical code of conduct.

Mande's arrest came after the unnamed person who had been on ARVs treatment for three years decided to go Citizen Medical Centre for an HIV test with a partner. In the end Mande suggested that he could issue him a certificate showing that he was negative provided he paid Shs 50,000.

Mande allegedly also told him he did not need to take a blood test.

After the act person sought police intervention thus leading to Mande's arrest and detention.

Mande confessed to police that for long, he has been administering blood tests to couples especially those preparing for marriage. He said people who want to alter their results  have been paying him Shs 50,000.
