Veteran journalist Teddy Cheeye dies at 60. Reports coming in indicate the seasoned journalist was knocked dead by a speeding motor cycle.

Teddy Sseezi Cheeye, 60 , the former head of economic monitoring in the Internal Security Organisation (ISO) has died according to the New Vision, the government newspaper.

According to one of the relatives, Cheeye was knocked by a boda boda around Nakawa.

Cheeye who was in 2009 convicted for embezzling Global Fund money worth Shs120 million and sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2010 was last year released from Luzira after he served his sentence.

Teddy Seezi Cheeye, who completed his seven year jail term at Luzira over corruption in March last year always maintained he was was wrongly convicted even after he served his sentence.

The Global Fund scandal unfolded from 2005 and 2009 and it involved tens of millions of dollars in grants from the Geneva-based Global Fund for Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria that went to charities that did not exist or into the personal bank accounts of government employees.

Veteran journalist Teddy Seezi Cheeye, who was then the director of economic monitoring in ISO was among the first suspects to be convicted for his role in misappropriation and embezzlement the Global Fund money. Justice John Bosco Katutsi of the Anti-corruption Court sentenced him to 10 years in prison in October 2010.
