More schools closed for being substandard, lack of licences

The directorate of education standards under the ministry of education and sports Yesterday shutdown several schools across the country.

In Wakiso District, Dominion nursery and primary school and Bridge Academy Kasokoso were among those that were closed indefinitely.

Mugenyi Cleophas, the commissioner education standards while addressing pupils at the assembly said the ministry is closing down the school till further notice because they do not only have a licence but also the sanitation is in a bad state.

He said the ministry will not hesitate to apprehend those that violate this mandate, cautioning culprits to ready for consequences.

“Those that breach the law and reopen shall be dealt with legally in the courts of law, and possibly end up in Luzira,” he said.

The school's staff room also acts as a store.

NilePost took a tour around Dominion nursery and primary school to ascertain reasons for it closure. Besides lacking licence to operate, the school’s sanitation was found wanting.

The school’s latrine reeks right from the entrance of the premises while the available four urinals serve the pupils from the nursery section, primary section, to the teachers.

This follows a strong warning from the ministry of education and sports to all unlicensed schools not open for this academic year unless they meet the required standards.
