Following reports that parts of Mabira forests were vanishing because of deforestation, The minister of state for Environment, Mary Gorreti Kitutu today toured parts of the forest to ascertain the authenticity of these reports.
Some parts of the forest had been cut down by timber dealers, she discovered. There were also people who had settled in the forest.

She was accompanied by officials from the National Forestry Authority whom she implored to ensure that the forest is protected from encroachers.
