MPs insist on having Muhakanizi resign, caution him on arrogance

Legislators sitting on the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament have warned the Auditor General against bowing to the intimidation from the Secretary to the Treasury and Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Keith Muhakanizi over the ongoing auditing of the Shs 720b as directed by the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga.

The Committee members who maintain that the Permanent Secretary should be forced to quit his job for causing a financial loss of $200million to the government and breaching the financial laws, are skeptical that the parallel investigation by the Auditor General may be manipulated.

The legislators have also lashed out at the permanent secretary for describing Members of Parliament as ignorant which they said was undermining their integrity and arrogant.

In a joint Press conference at Parliament, the committee members maintained that the Mr Muhakanizi failed to perform his technical role to the minister hence the need for him to quit his current position.

According to the Speaker’s directives, the Auditor General is supposed to present a report of their investigations before the end of this month.
