Police ICT Director Ngabirano resigns, allegedly flees country

Featured

The police director in charge of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) AIGP Amos Ngabirano has tendered in his resignation from the force, the Nile Post has learnt.

According to sources privy to the development, Ngabirano last week wrote and tendered in in his resignation letter to the Inspector General of Police.

When contacted for a comment, police spokesperson Emilian Kayima dispelled the report as rumours.

“I have not seen any such thing as resignation. I think it is just speculation,”Kayima told the Nile Post on Saturday evening.

The Sunday Monitor reported that President Museveni a few weeks ago ordered for the disbandment of police procurement committee for the CCTV cameras whose instalment is soon to be rolled out.

Quoting a source from State House, the paper intimated that Museveni gave the orders during a National Security Committee meeting at Entebbe and Ngabirano was among those that was asked to be relieved of his duties.

His resignation however could be seen as a preemptive motive before Gen.Kayihura shows him matching orders as asked by Museveni.

Speaking during the vigil of the slain police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, Museveni promised that government would soon roll out installation of CCTV cameras along highways and major town centres in the country.

Another source told this website that Ngabirano has left the country to London, an allegation that we could not verify by the time of filing of this report.

Ngabirano, a civilian was hired by the Inspector General of Police, Gen.Kale Kayihura in 2005 as an expert in the Information, Communication and Technology department of the force and has been at the rank of Assistant Inspector of Police, the third highest rank in Uganda’s police force, following Deputy Inspector and Inspector General of Police.
