Sudhir quizzed over Kololo land, says he has halted developments

Property Mogul, Dr Sudhir Ruparelia today told a committee probing land issues that he had put on hold any further developments on the contested Kololo SS sports ground until outstanding legal issues are resolved.

Appearing before the commission to explain how he acquired the sports ground, Sudhir acknowledged that there could have been mistakes in the process through which he acquired the land but that the errors where not his.

Earlier the chairperson of the commission Justice Catherine Bamugemereire had also blamed the Uganda Land Commission for not following the right procedures while allocating land to investors.

In Sudhir's case for instance, it was discovered that on one of the titles they mentioned that the plot was found along Saddler's Way while the other said it was located along Lugogo-by pass.

Sudhir said he had acquired the land through application of lease from the Uganda Land Commission which at first was for a period of five years before it was extended to 99 years.

He said he had obtained a letter of no objection from the minister of state for Sports Charles Bakkabulindi and from the then minister for the Presidency, Frank Tumwebaze.

 

 

The two ministers could be summoned to explain their role in the saga.

Sudhir promised that he will work with Kololo SS to develop the grounds into a modern sports centre which will outlive him.

Yesterday board members of Kololo SS appeared before the land inquiry and alleged that Sudhir had acquired the land without their knowledge.
