Gen Muhoozi: Kitatta had become big security threat

Featured

The Chief of Defence Forces Gen. David Muhoozi has revealed that the army unleashed its full power in the arrest of Boda Boda 2010 members because it  wanted to avert a catastrophic situation.

The army chief who was speaking out for the first time after the military clamped down on some elements within Boda Boda 2010 , said the operation had in no way undermined the relationship between the army and police. Abudallah Kitatta, the chairman of the group was arrested and subsequently charged. He is remanded in Kigo prison.

"We don't regret the operation. We are happy," Muhoozi said.

Muhoozi said the involvement of the military in the arrests was after they received information that some people were trying to interfere with the justice system, reminding the public that no one is above the law

'There was an attempt to subvert information and a message had to be made," Muhoozi told The Nile Post.

He however maintained that every security organ has its mandate, and the Uganda Police will continue with its operations.

"The military taking over arrests will not be an everyday thing. We shall only intervene when need arises," Muhoozi said.

The four star general was speaking at the launch of the Tarehe Sita week at the military base in Mbuya. The launch is followed by activities like , blood donation, construction of small homes, medical checks among others

Tarehe Sita is celebrated on February 6.
