Five arrested with ammunition, explosives in Apac district

Police at Bibia border point in Apac district  has arrested five people on suspicion of transporting weapons suspected to be destined for South Sudan.

According to a police source that preferred anonymity because he is not authorised to speak about the matter, one Flavia Akech,49 was arrested on Wednesday at around 3pm with bags containing a number of ammunition and explosives.

Our sources said she had 13 sub machine gun magazines amounting to 390 rounds of ammunition, 17 grenades and their fuses, sub machines gun ammunitions(596), 493 PK ammunitions, pistols and bullet pouches labelled Tiger division 2 and marked with the word "national security."

“The items were found in a Toyota Noah UAP 771K driven by Vincent Otema but Akech evaded the check point on a boda boda,”the source told this website.

Akech is believed to be a resident of Makerere, Kampala.

She is being detained at Elegu police station under case file number SRB 09/2018.

Efforts to talk to Patrick Okema, the Aswa region police spokesperson were futile as he did not return our calls.
