EC sets March 15 for Jinja East by-election

The Electoral Commission has set March 15 as the date for the polling day for the Jinja East by-election.

The chairman of the commission, Simon Byabakama, said they had gathered all the necessary logistics for the election.

The repeat election is as a result of the cancellation of the election of NRM' Igeme Nabeta by the court of Appeal. Nabeta is expected to face off with FDC's Paul Mwiru who challenged his victory.

Byabakama said it was not the responsibility of the commission to vet the academic qualifications of candidates urging the voters to be vigilant.

He expressed confidence that EC shall conduct a free and fair election.

Jinja East has a total number of 28,493 registered voters and 47 polling stations.
