Police yesterday recovered the body of a Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) cleaner believed to have been raped and strangled to death.

The body of the 38- year old Sarah Nakanwagi was found lying lifeless on the road side in a pool of water by people who called police.

On arrival, the officers called in personnel from the Canine Unit who brought sniffer dogs and they were able to trace the smell to two nearby houses.

According to the Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the two occupants of the houses have been arrested.

"Our Kawempe team introduced Canine at the scene which led us to houses of two individuals and they have been taken for questioning at Kawempe Police station," said Owoyesigyire.

Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased had marks on her neck which raises suspicion of strangulation and her clothes were torn.

The body has been taken to the Kampala city Mortuary for postmortem as police continues with investigations.

"The postmortem will give use concrete evidence on whether she was raped and later strangled," added Owoyesigyire.
