Archbishop Ntagali hails Nkoyoyo for mentoring him

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda , Stanley Ntagali has praised the late Archbishop Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo as a mentor of many people including the current leader of the Anglican church in Uganda.

Nkoyoyo died on Friday at Kampala hospital where he was admitted early this week after suffering from Pneumonia.

Speaking to journalists at Kampala Hospital, Ntagali thanked God for the life of the deceased whom he described as a faithful servant of God.

“We are thankful to God for his faithful ministry, he was looking after many children. He mentored many people, clergy and all of us bishops,” Ntagali, who is also the Bishop of Kampala said of the sixth Archbishop of the Church of Uganda.

Nkoyoyo served as the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda from 1995 to 2004 as is credited for spearheading among other projects, the Bishop Tucker Theological College which later turned out to be known as Uganda Christian University in Mukono.

Ntagali said that his death will be a celebration of the work he did for God while serving as a man of God.

“He served the Lord, the church and country faithfully.”

Opposition and Forum for Democratic Change strongman Dr.Kizza Besigye described the late Nkoyoyo as an effective preacher for a long time who will be greatly missed.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the widow, family and friends,”Besigye posted on his twitter account.

During his preaching, Nkoyoyo was famous for using idioms and proverbs in a bid to drive points home. Nkoyoyo was born in 1938 to Erisa Wamala Nkoyoyo and Nawume Nakintu (both deceased) and his father was a sub-country chief in Busimbi Mityana during Sekabaka Edward Mutesa II’s reign.

According to Ntagali, the deceased’s body will be taken to All Saints Cathedral in Nakasero on Sunday and on Monday it will be driven to St. Andrews and St. Phillips Cathedral in Mukono before being taken to his home in Nakabago, Mukono district.

Nkoyoyo will be buried on Tuesday at Namugongo.
