Kamya releases Natete Market report

The Minister for Kampala Beti Kamya has released a report on Natete Market ownership that pins KCCA officials of fraudulently selling off the land to R.R Transporters Company limited.

Kamya told excited vendors that no one will evict them because the market belongs to them.

‘’I pledge as the minister for Kampala that no one will remove you (Vendors) from this place any more, because government has secured for you this land as Natete Market Vendors,” she said.

The vendors expressed gratitude that they can now finally work in peace and thanked the minister for rescuing them from uncertainty and misery. They had been given eviction notice up to January 1.

According to the report; ‘’Natete Market land, was fraudulently sold to R.R. Transporters Company limited by the former KCC leaders being captained by the former Mayor Nassor Sebaggala.”

“In 2006 the former Kampala Capital City made a decision to sell of Natete market land at a price of Shs250 million to R.R Transporters company limited,” Mwabye Richar, the deputy RCC for Kampala said.

The report also reveals that documents of the 46-year government lease of the said land cannot be traced.

Mwabye adds that; ‘’ The report indicates that the KCC officials also sold the second plot that has the government lease of 46years occupancy to the same company R.R transporters.’’

The report recommended that Sabaggala and others should be investigated.
