Da Costa is still our coach – Vipers SC

Kitende based Vipers Sports Club have cleared the air about what they termed as baseless rumours that they had sacked their head coach, tactician Miguel Da Costa.

The venoms signed Da Costa on a three year contract eight months ago after sacking the then coach Abdalla Mubiru.

The Portuguese has been under fire over a string of poor results that has seen his team win only once in the last five games in the Azam Uganda Premier League , the latest being the team’s 2-1 loss to URA FC at home on Tuesday attracting rumours about his future at the club.

However, the club head of communications, Abdu Wasike, told this website that there has not been any change of management at the club adding that all reports about the same are baseless.

“Vipers SC as a professional club shall let you know of any developments through its official media in case of anything but there is no need for alarm,”Wasike told the Nile Post.

Reports had pointed to Safapaka coach Sam Ssimbwa as the replacement for the Portuguese tactician who has overseen a dismal performance since the start of the season.

However, Wasike said these will always remain rumours until further notice.

“The club is still focused on its mission of winning accolades in local competitions its engaged in and that is our priority now,”Wasike said.

There are reports that there was a meeting by the club management and one of the items on the agenda was the future of the Portuguese but according to the club mouthpiece, these are all baseless rumours.

Time will now be the best story teller to the rumour about the job of coach Da Costa who recently told journalists after the defeat to URA at home that his strikers had not done enough to score goals that would enable his team win matches.

Vipers are now fifth on the sixteen team log after collecting twenty points from thirteen outings that has seen them score 13 goals and conceded 10 in the Azam Uganda Premier League this season.
