FDC LIVE: Besigye makes grand entry

Dr Kizza Besigye, the former party president, made a grand entry into the FDC delegates conference at Namboole stadium.

Dressed in a dark blue suit and a striped tie, Besigye arrived at 11.03 am to the sounds of a brass band and cheers.

His arrival brought proceedings to a standstill and provided further evidence that while he may no longer be party president, he still hovers above the party.

Besigye stepped down as FDC president on the back of a dismal performance in 2011 elections.

He sat next to Joyce Ssebugwawo, the Rubaga division mayor and FDC deputy president.

FDC is meeting to elect a party president and the main contest is between Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu, the incumbent and Patrick Oboi Amuriat, a former MP. Besigye has not publicly declared any support for any although it is widely believed that he is backing Amuriat.
