Kaweesi murder suspects charged with terrorism

Three people who are currently battling charges in relation to the murder of former police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi in March, have been slapped with fresh charges.

AIGP Kaweesi was shot dead by unknown assailants as he left his home in Kulambiro, together with his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and driver Godfrey Mambewa.

However on Thursday morning, three of the twenty two (22) people who are alleged to have participated in the murder were charged for terrorism.

The Nakawa Grade One magistrate in the absence of the state prosecutor told them that the Director of Public Prosecutions had slapped new charges of having participated in activities of Allied Democratic Forces, an outfit which was declared as a terrorist organization according to the anti -terrorism act 2012.

Among those slapped with fresh charges included two of those who had earlier on Thursday been granted bail by the same court and these included; Ali Mugoya and Hibwangi Sinani.

Abdul Kaala who was yet to be released on bail was also slapped with fresh charges.

“The three and others still at large between 2006 and April 2007 at various places in Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo belonged or professed to the Allied Democratic Forces, a terrorist organization,” the prosecution alleges.

This comes on the heels of two other suspects in the Kaweesi murder case who were re-arrested early this month by security operatives in plain clothes after being released on bail by the Nakawa magistrates court.

The then police spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye later told journalists that the duo who are currently detained at Nalufenya in Jinja district are being investigated over being part of ADF rebels.
