Four more Kaweesi murder suspects released

The Nakawa Grade One Magistrate, Noah Sajjabi has released on bail four more suspects accused of having masterminded the murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi in March.

Through their lawyers led by Anthony Wameli and Godfrey Turyamusiima, the accused told court that it was their right to get a mandatory bail having spent more than six months on remand.

There was no state prosecutor to object to the bail.

Those released on bail are: Sauda Ayub, Swaleh Damulira, Fiswali Hibwenge and Asuman Mugoya.

In his ruling Nakawa grade one magistrate, Sajjabi said that the bail application had merit and thus released them temporarily.

"They have spent more than six months on remand yet they have never been committed to High Court for trial," Sajjabi said in his ruling.

He asked each of the accused to pay Shs 50 million non-cash bond whereas their two sureties were asked to pay the same amount, non cash.

Their release comes two weeks after the release of seven other suspects in the same case, four of whom were re-arrested minutes later by secuirty operatives in plain clothes.

However during today's court session, two of the re-arrested suspects who their lawyers had earlier said could not be traced, showed up.

They are: Ali Khisa and Abdul Majid Ojegere.

AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi who was the then police spokesperson was shot dead by unknown assailants in March as he left his home.
