COSAFA: Uganda U-20 draws Zambia, Malawi

The Uganda U20 side the Hippos will have to contend with hosts and holders Zambia in a tricky group at the 2017 COSAFA Under 20 championship.

The Hippos will grace the U20 championship as invited guests for the tournament due December 6th-16th in Kitwe, Zambia.

The draw conducted in Johannesburg on Thursday sees Uganda’s U20 side face African Champions Zambia, Swaziland and Malawi with the top team assured of a place in the semi finals.

The Group of Death in this year’s tournament appears to be Group B as last year’s runners-up South Africa must contend with North African guests Egypt, Mozambique and Mauritius.

Group C will also be a tough one to call with Angola, Lesotho, Namibia and Zimbabwe vying for top spot.

The top teams in each pool advance to the semifinals along with the best-placed runner-up.

The Hippos face Zambia in the tournament opener at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe on December 6th 2017

Matches will be played at the Arthur Davies and Nkana stadiums in Kitwe.

Uganda’s U17 side was banned in 2010 for fielding an over age player while the U20 side was disqualified from the U20 AFCON qualifiers after CAF ruled in favour of Rwanda that James Aheebwa the goalkeeper had two different passports prompting disqualification on the basis of age fraud.
