MUBS beat Gulu to move closer to University Football League finals

A fifth minute free-kick ensured the 2015 University Football League champions, Makerere University Business School moved a step closer to this year’s finals in a game played at Nakawa on Friday afternoon.

Danger man Moses Kifumba’s well taken free kick went straight to the goal after beating the Gulu goalkeeper to send the Nakawa based university fans into frenzy in the first leg of their semi -final game.

The home side could have added a number of goals onto this but were wasteful on the day, courtesy of Derrick Kyega and Osman Miraji who put a number of chances for their team to waste.

The Northern Uganda side also had a number of chances but these went begging as their hosts proved to be as solid as a rock in the defence.

Speaking shortly after the game, MUBS coach Charles Ayiekho was bitter with his team for not killing off the game in the first half but wasted a number of chances.

“We could have been two goals up in the first half but my players especially Osman Miraji were too wasteful,”Ayiekho said.

He was however optimistic his team would get atleast a draw in Gulu so as to be able to storm the finals to be played at Namboole.

“I will go all out to beat them at their own home ground. I am confident my team will be in the finals.”

The winner of the two legs will play either Uganda Martyrs University or Nkumba in this year’s finals of the University Football League.

The two teams shared spoils in the first leg on Wednesday.

Gaba based Kampala University are the defending champions of the University Football League after beating   Nkumba 3-2 after extra time in the finals played in Namboole last year.
