Besigye's aide, Muhinda, finally released

After more than 12 days in detention, Ronald Muhinda, Dr Kizza Besigye's personal aide has today been released from custody on police bond.

He was variously held in Rukungiri police station and Jinja road police station in Kampala.

Writing on his Facebook page today, Muhinda stated: "Never allow your mind to be imprisoned. You can hit my body, injure it and even lock it down but a strong mind is the greatest defence against all forms of persecution."

Muhinda was arrested on October 19 after police fired tear gas and live bullets to disperse a crowd that had gathered at Rukungiri stadium to welcome Besigye. One person, Edison Nasasira, was killed in the resulting fracas.

Muhinda said: "I am absolutely convinced, as day follows night, that Uganda shall return to Ugandans. That change is inevitable."
