The Uganda Law Society, the umbrella body for lawyers in their country, has condemned the brutal murder of their colleague, Adam Haibala Mulongo killed by unknown assailants .

In the wee hours of Sunday morning, unknown thugs pounced on Mulongo as he returned home in UEB village in Ntinda and he was rushed to Kadic hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In a statement issued on Sunday afternoon, Uganda Law Society president, Francis Gimara said it was absurd that their fellow  lawyer was brought to an end in an extra judicial killing as he returned home.

“Every injustice diminishes us as a people and nation. We must raise our consciousness to condemn acts all acts of violence that result into the extra judicial killing of our fellow Ugandans,”Gimara said.

“These crimes are an assault on the integrity of the state and should draw the concern of every major stake holder.”

Following the recent killing of over 20 women in Nansana and Entebbe areas of Wakiso district, cases of people killed by unknown assailants had reduced in the past few months.

However the lawyers’ body asked police and other security agents to conduct immediate and thorough, impartial and transparent investigations into the murder of their colleague and ensure the suspects face the wrath of the law.

“We equally demand that government takes all steps necessary to make the security of all citizens a priority. Uganda Law Society will be following up this matter keenly to ensure justice is done and the perpetuators are brought to book through a lawful process,”Gimara noted.

In a short interview with the Nile Post,Mulongo’s brother, Moses Mulongo, described the deceased as a calm and down to earth person who would be missed greatly.

“I call him my brother, father and boss. Life will not be same without him,”Moses Mulongo said of his deceased brother.

Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, said that the incident happened at around 4:30 am as Mulongo waited at his gate for people at home to open for him.

“Unknown people came from behind and hit him on the head and he collapsed,”Owoyesigyire said .

He added that the city lawyer was then rushed to Kadic hospital where he breathed his last at around 10 am on Sunday.

“Only his phone was taken and we have started investigations into the matter. We have started taking statements from the people who reported the incident.”

The police mouthpiece said that the assailants vandalized property from other two people in the neighborhood as they fled .
