Police in collaboration with other security agencies on Friday carried out an operation in which 21 suspected criminals were arrested in the city centre.

According to Cadet ASP Ivan Nduhura, the Officer in Charge of Operations at the Central Police Station in Kampala who led the operation, following intelligence leads, they raided areas including Arua Park, Nebbi park and Market street which he said have in the past proved to be homes for criminals who terrorise the city.

“They snatch people’s bags, phones and other items especially in the peak hours of the day making life hard for people in the city,”Nduhura said.

“We could not allow criminals take over the city when we are looking on. We had to act swiftly.”

Nduhura said as the festive season draws near, they would deploy both uniformed and non -uniformed personnel in the most vulnerable areas of the city so as to curb crime.

“We shall keep following criminals who are on our watch lists, repeat offenders and those who have just been released from prison because these are capable of terrorising the public,” he said.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, Frank Mwesigwa, recently said that they have  watch list of over 100 hardcore criminals who are being  monitored by so as to be arrested.
