NRM delegates summoned to State House over age limit

Member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s National Executive Council (NEC) have been summoned to State House Entebbe today to discuss age limit Bill.

A statement from the party spokesperson, Rogers Mulindwa calls upon NRM heads from District and conference chairpersons, diaspora chairpersons, NEC members of all special organs, EALA Mps affiliated to the party, Municipal Mayors and flag bearers, Central Executive Committee (CEC) members and flag bearers for parliamentary and District chairperson positions.

However, legislators in the 10th parliament who subscribe to the ruling party have been excluded from the meeting that will be graced by the party chairman, Yoweri Museveni.

“This serves to inform the NRM members of the NEC, excluding serving members of parliament, that there will be a meeting this Friday October 27 at State House Entebbe. All members are expected to report at the party headquarters in Kampala early enough for accreditation and thereafter leave for the meeting venue by 9:00am,” the statement reads.

The party argues that the reason for leaving out Members of Parliament is because they are supposed to be busy consulting in their constituencies on constitutional amendments.

Among other issues to be discussed in the controversial age limit Bill that was tabled by Raphael Magyezi.

It should be noted that already the Parliamentary caucus and the cabinet have already endorsed Magyezi’s bill. The latest organ to back the bill was the CEC on Tuesday.

One of the members of the NEC when contacted said he is aware the meeting is to ensure they all endorse the age limit debate. He however indicated it will not happen at least for him.

“They think we shall just endorse the age limit, that will not happen,” he told Nile Post.
