The Rukungiri magistrates court has this morning granted Dr Kizza Besigye non cash bail but it remains unclear whether he will be allowed to leave the premises.

The premises are still surrounded by security personnel and armoured cars.

Besigye, the FDC former president, Ingrid Turinawe and Patrick Oboi Amuriat,  were charged with four counts of incitement of violence, one count of disobedience of statutory duty and one count of malicious damage to police vehicles.

Besigye arrived at court at 7.45 am under heavy police escort.

Dressed in a checkered shirt, a brown jacket and holding a white polythene bag, a smiling Besigye was escorted by counter terrorism police personnel.

Darius Tweyambe, an FDC activist in Rukungiri was arrested outside court for unknown reasons.

He is still under detention.

On Tuesday evening, Besigye was driven from Naggalama police division to Mbarara.

He spent the night at Mbarara Central Police Station. At 6.30 am today, he was driven at break neck speed, in a heavily guarded police convoy, to Rukungiri, using the Ntungamo-Kabale road.

Hours ago, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Allan Ssewanyana, the Makindye West MP were present in court.
