The National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobiliser for Buhatuba parish in Masafu Sub County, Busa District, is nursing injuries after residents descended on him and obliterated him for persuading them to support the age limit removal.

Emmanuel Bakaba, was assaulted by unidentified people on Saturday night at Mumutumba trading centre after for mobilising residents and traders to support the removal of article 102 (b) from the constitution, which caps the president’s age at 75 years.

He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Masafu hospital for treatment by his friends. Bakaba identifies one of his attackers as Steven Oguttu, a resident of the same area.

Bakaba says that his tormentors punched him and caned him severely for expressing his support for the age limit Bill.

However, Oguttu says that Bakaba deserved it for trying to force them into supporting the amendment. He also maintains that he and his colleagues did not beat Bakaba but saved themselves from his beating.

“He found us conversing and he started telling us to support the amendment, he forced us to be on his side or else he starts a fight. We did not beat him but we protected ourselves from him beating us,” Oguttu says.

Bakaba however, vowed to continue supporting the bill because his area Member of Parliament, Julius Maganda is also in favor of scrapping the presidential age limit.

Bakaba has filed a case of assault at Masafu police station. By the time of filing this story, the Officer in Charge of Masafu Police station couldn’t be reached for comment.
